Moscow awaits details of peace plan ahead of talks with US

The Kremlin said on Friday that it expected a list of agreed points of a peace plan for Ukraine before the US delegation arrives in Moscow. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia sees the plan as a US initiative and is negotiating exclusively with Washington.

U.S. President Donald Trump presented a 28-point peace plan, which was reduced to 19 points during weekend talks in Geneva. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the negotiations as "the most progressive since Trump took office". Secret talks between US and Ukrainian officials were also held in Abu Dhabi.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the Ukrainian and US delegations will continue the talks later this week, with him joining them in person next week. However, in his view, Ukraine has no right to lose unity.

His former chief of staff Andriy Yermak also stressed that Zelensky as president will not agree to any territorial concessions.

Moscow continues to regard Zelensky as an illegitimate president on the grounds that his term of office has expired. However, Ukraine claims that elections cannot be held during martial law. But Peskov says Russia nevertheless wants to move towards peace in Ukraine.
