Iraq's Khor Mor gas field resumes operations after drone attack
Operations at Iraq's Khor Mor gas field resumed on Sunday morning and gas deliveries to regional power plants began at 2.00am local time, the Kurdistan Region's Energy Ministry announced. Production was halted after Thursday's drone attack, which caused power outages in wide areas.
The Khor Mor gas field, one of the largest in Iraqi Kurdistan, is a key source of raw material for electricity generation. According to Dana Gas, which operates the field with partners, a rocket hit a storage tank and forced the operation to shut down completely. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities have not disclosed the suspects.
The incident is the most serious since a series of drone strikes in July that hit oilfields and reduced production in the region by around 150 thousand barrels per day. The Kurdish regional government enjoys extensive autonomy in northern Iraq, and a number of U.S. firms operate in the energy sector there.
