Thought-controlled devices. Musk reports implant production

Neuralink, Elon Musk's brain implant and operating system company, will begin "high-volume production" of brain-computer interface devices. And later this year, Musk wants to move to fully automated surgery, he confirmed on social network X.

The implant is to be designed to help people with conditions such as spinal cord injuries. The first patient used it to play video games, browse the internet, post on social media and move a cursor on a laptop.

The company began testing its brain implant on humans in 2024 after addressing safety concerns raised by the US Food and Drug Administration. The latter initially rejected the application for its use in 2022.

Neuralink noted last September that twelve people worldwide with severe paralysis have received its brain implants and use them to control digital and physical tools through thought. In June, she also raised $650 million in funding for the project.
