Colombia closes land border with Venezuela

Colombia has closed its land border with Venezuela. This is a consequence of the armed intervention of the United States of America in Venezuela and the fear of a possible mass emigration of Venezuelans. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in the context of travel advisories.

"The Colombian government has deployed armed troops along the entire 2,000-kilometre border with Venezuela," the diplomatic ministry explained. For Colombia, it has issued a second level of travel advisory, which means that Slovaks should consider travelling to this country as a necessity.

The ministry also issued a level four travel advisory for Venezuela on Saturday. It advises Slovak citizens not to travel to Venezuela under any circumstances, and those who are in Venezuela are advised to leave the country as soon as possible.

On Saturday morning, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had carried out a large-scale attack against Venezuela. On Saturday morning, the United States detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and took him from Venezuela to New York, where he will appear in federal court. He is accused of several crimes, including drug smuggling or weapons possession.
