Number of asylum applications in Germany for 2025 plummets
Germany has seen a significant drop in asylum applications in 2025. According to data from the Interior Ministry published by Bild, the number of first applications has fallen by 51 percent year-on-year - from 229 thousand in 2024 to around 113 thousand.
In total, more than 168-thousand applications have been submitted, a drop of 32.8 percent. If children of migrants born in Germany were not counted, the number of first applications would fall below the 100 thousand mark.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt attributed the decline to tougher measures: a reversal in migration policy, consistent refusals at the border, restrictions on family reunification, the abolition of fast-track naturalization, and a reduction in Germany's attractiveness to migrants.
In his view, the result is a clear signal that German and European migration policy has fundamentally changed.
