Trump cancels second wave of attacks on Venezuela
US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the US is canceling the second wave of attacks on Venezuela. He justified the decision by citing improved cooperation between the two countries.
He highlighted common interests in the oil industry, claiming that American companies plan to invest up to $100 billion in Venezuela. Despite the positive tone, however, he added that all oil tankers would remain in place "for security reasons."
The announcement came after the US launched a military intervention in the country and detained President Nicolás Maduro.
He also hinted at the possibility of cooperation with opposition leader Machado, whom he had recently rejected. According to Trump, the US also has a good relationship with interim president Delcy Rodríguez.
Meanwhile, the US Senate has passed a resolution limiting the president's authority to conduct further military operations without congressional approval.
