Macron convenes defense council to discuss Iran and Greenland
French President Emmanuel Macron convened an extraordinary meeting of the Defense Council to discuss two issues: US President Donald Trump's ambitions regarding Greenland and the escalation of violence against demonstrators in Iran.
He also announced that the first group of French mountain specialists is already on its way to Greenland, where they will take part in an international military exercise organized by Denmark. According to Macron, the presence of French forces is intended to express support for Copenhagen and the local government in Nuuk.
Germany, Norway, and Sweden have also sent troops to the region.
However, key negotiations between the US, Denmark, and Greenland have not yet yielded a breakthrough, with opinions on the island's future diverging significantly.
Macron is also scheduled to deliver a speech to the armed forces later today.
