Macron asks NATO for exercises in Greenland, participation confirmed

France has requested NATO exercises in Greenland and is prepared to contribute to them, the office of French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday.

The news of the request comes as US President Donald Trump travels to Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, he confirmed that he has several meetings planned there concerning Greenland: "I think things will turn out quite well."

Macron said in Davos on Tuesday that Europe will not bow to tyrants or be intimidated. He sharply criticized Trump's threat to impose high tariffs if Europe does not allow him to take over Greenland.

NATO leaders warned that Trump's strategy for Greenland could undermine the Alliance. The president has long argued that acquiring the world's largest island is important "for national and global security."
