According to the CIA, Rodríguez will maintain relations with Russia and China.
American intelligence services have doubts about the willingness of Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, to sever ties with US adversaries such as Russia, China, and Iran. Although the US supported her after Nicolás Maduro's capture, Rodríguez has not publicly announced the termination of these ties and has even participated in events with their representatives.
The CIA has identified the Venezuelan head of state as capable of maintaining stability in the country, mainly thanks to her ties to the oil sector. At the same time, however, there are concerns about her reliability.
Although she has taken steps to appease Washington, such as releasing political prisoners and approving oil sales to the US, she has publicly criticized American intervention. A few days ago, she admitted that she had had enough of American orders.
The Donald Trump administration is also negotiating with the opposition. Leader Maria Corina Machado, who reportedly won the 2024 election, is popular in the White House, but does not yet have the necessary ties to the military or the oil sector.
Trump has confirmed that he is considering how to involve her in the country's leadership. Machado even dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize, which is non-transferable, to this.
