According to Kallas, NATO must become more "European"

Europe is no longer Washington's main focus, and this shift is structural, not temporary. This was announced on Wednesday by the head of European Union foreign policy, Kaja Kallas.

She did so at a time when European leaders are grappling with how to adapt to US President Donald Trump's approach to transatlantic relations.

At the annual conference of the European Defense Agency, she added that although the Union still strives for strong transatlantic ties and the United States will remain an ally, Europe must adapt to the new reality and "NATO must become more European to maintain its strength."

"The risk of a complete return to coercive power politics, spheres of influence, and a world where might prevails over right is very real," she also mentioned.

European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius expressed a similar view: "We must develop pan-European capabilities, not just national ones. To be clear, independence does not mean being alone. Independence means together. Building a European pillar in NATO. Together in the European Union, together in NATO, and with Ukraine."
