Vance or Rubio? Trump avoids choosing a successor and praises both
US President Donald Trump has so far refused to clearly endorse any of the potential Republican candidates for president in 2028.
At the center of speculation are his vice president, JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whom Trump has repeatedly praised as capable and intelligent politicians. He seems unwilling to take sides prematurely in order to avoid intra-party tensions.
In his words, Republicans still have plenty of time, and the priority is the current work of the administration. At the same time, he hinted that a combination of Vance and Rubio on the same ticket would be very difficult for opponents to beat.
Both names remain in the game, with Rubio cautiously leaving the door open for his own candidacy and Vance planning to discuss the future directly with Trump.
The president also flirted again with the idea of a third term, even though the US Constitution does not allow for such a scenario.
