The US has suspended contact with the Speaker of the Polish Parliament
On Thursday, US Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose broke off contact with Polish Parliament Speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty, accusing him of insulting US President Donald Trump. He was responding to Czarzasty's statements criticizing Trump's foreign policy and refusing to support his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Czarzasty, leader of the Left party and a minor coalition partner in Prime Minister Donald Tusk's pro-European government, said on Monday that he would not support the initiative of US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson and Israeli Parliament Speaker Amir Ohana.
The initiative aims to persuade the speakers of parliament to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026 for his activities in the Middle East. According to Czarzasty, the US president is destabilizing international organizations by pursuing a policy of force.
Ambassador Rose called these statements outrageous and unprovoked insults and announced that Washington was immediately terminating all negotiations, contacts, and communication with Czarzasty. According to him, his statements jeopardize the excellent relations between the United States and the Polish government.
He emphasized that the US will not allow anyone to damage relations between the two countries or show disrespect to President Trump, whom he described as an important ally of Poland. Czarzasty subsequently responded that he regrets the ambassador's reaction but does not plan to change his position on fundamental issues.
