TikTok and Snapchat may also be banned for children in Slovenia

The Slovenian government is preparing a bill to ban children under the age of 15 from accessing social networks. This was announced on Thursday by Deputy Prime Minister Matej Arcon after a cabinet meeting.

According to him, the aim of the proposed legislation is to protect children and adolescents from the negative influences of the digital environment.

With a population of approximately two million, Slovenia is joining several other European countries that have recently tightened access to social media platforms. Spain and Greece presented similar proposals earlier this week, which, according to Arcon, confirms that this is an increasingly topical issue throughout Europe.

Arcon said that the initiative came from the Ministry of Education and that experts in education and digital technology are expected to be involved in drafting the bill. The regulation is expected to apply to platforms where content is shared, citing TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram as examples.

While Spain is considering banning social media for people under the age of 16, Greece is close to introducing an age limit of 15, according to government sources. Other countries, including Britain and France, are also considering stricter rules after Australia became the first country in the world to ban children under the age of 16 from accessing social networks in December.
