We don't want monkeys to be sad, Trump explained in a deleted video.
Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, a social media platform, responding to criticism of a White House post that caused outrage for comparing the Obamas to monkeys.
According to him, the post sparked a lot of comments and criticism. He also claims that the family of renowned British primatologist Jane Goodall contacted him to express their dissatisfaction with the monkeys being compared to former President Barack Obama's family.
Trump wrote that he did not want to "make monkeys sad" and mentioned several famous animals, such as Koko the gorilla and Harambe.
He ends the post with the slogan "Make Apes Great Again" and adds that he subsequently had the offending content deleted.
