Ukraine defends attacks on Russian energy infrastructure

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky defended attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, saying they were legitimate military targets. According to him, Russia uses revenues from oil and energy sales to finance weapons production, and therefore the energy sector cannot be separated from military operations.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has a choice between attacking the weapons themselves or the sources of money that finance them.

His comments came after another Russian attack on the energy facilities of the Ukrainian company Naftogaz in the Poltava region.

According to the company, this was the nineteenth targeted attack on its infrastructure since the beginning of the year. Kyiv repeatedly claims that such attacks are part of an effort to weaken Ukraine during the war.
