White House deletes post about Armenian genocide
The White House deleted a post from the account of US Vice President JD Vance, who during a visit to Armenia described the massacres of Armenians in 1915 as genocide. The administration claims that it was a staff error, and Vance himself did not use this term in public statements.
The incident attracted attention mainly because Turkey, a US ally in NATO, rejects the systematic genocide, and Washington, under Donald Trump, avoids using this term.
During his visit to Yerevan, Vance laid a wreath at the memorial to the victims and signed a cooperation agreement, including the possible construction of a nuclear power plant. He then traveled to Azerbaijan, where he signed a strategic partnership agreement.
The aim of the trip was to support the peace agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan. However, the deletion of the post was criticized by Democrats and representatives of the Armenian diaspora in the US.
