According to Zelensky, Ukraine is ready for elections and a referendum
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv had tried to support US peace proposals to end the war with Russia. US President Donald Trump wants to resolve the conflict before the November US Congressional elections.
In an interview with The Atlantic, Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to hold presidential elections and a referendum on a possible agreement, but will not accept a solution that is contrary to its interests.
The conditions are security guarantees and a ceasefire, which have not yet been agreed upon: "No one is clinging to power. I am ready for elections. But for that, we need security, security guarantees, a ceasefire."
According to him, the document on security guarantees is almost ready, but some details, including the issue of US missile defense, remain unresolved. However, he clarified that he rejected the proposal reported by the Financial Times this week to announce the results of the vote on February 24, the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has questioned Zelensky's legitimacy as a negotiating partner.
