Denmark to provide four F-35 fighter jets to Arctic Guard mission

Denmark will provide four F-35 fighter jets for NATO's Arctic Guard mission, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen confirmed on Friday.

NATO announced on Wednesday that it had launched a mission to strengthen its presence in the Arctic, part of an effort to ease tensions within the alliance caused by US President Donald Trump's attempt to acquire Greenland from Denmark.

"Our contribution in the form of F-35 aircraft strengthens our overall presence in the region and emphasizes Denmark's role as an active ally in the Arctic and North Atlantic," Poulsen said in a statement.

The minister also expects the United States to contribute to the NATO mission, he told reporters ahead of the Munich Security Conference.

The Swedish government confirmed on Thursday that it will patrol around Iceland and Greenland with JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets as part of the mission.
