Reuters: US considers long-term operation against Iran
The US military is preparing for the possibility of a military operation against Iran lasting several weeks if President Donald Trump orders an attack. Two unnamed US officials told Reuters.
Washington is also continuing diplomatic negotiations. On Tuesday, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are scheduled to meet with Iranian officials in Geneva, with Oman acting as mediator. However, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has admitted that reaching an agreement will be difficult.
Meanwhile, the US is strengthening its military presence in the Middle East. The Pentagon is sending another aircraft carrier, thousands of troops, fighter jets, and destroyers. Trump has also spoken openly about the possibility of regime change in Tehran, although he has long expressed skepticism about the deployment of ground forces.
Experts warn that any operation could provoke a large-scale retaliation by Iran and lead to a wider regional conflict. Tehran has already warned that it will strike US bases in the region in the event of an attack.
