Former Ukrainian energy minister attempted to flee the country
On Saturday night, members of Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) detained the former energy minister as he attempted to flee the country.
According to Ukrayinska Pravda, Herman Galushchenko attempted to leave Ukraine by train. He was detained as part of Operation Midas, which concerns a corruption scandal.
Galuščenko held the position of energy minister last year, but resigned in November. This happened after NABU uncovered a large-scale money laundering conspiracy in the country's energy sector last year. The connections reach all the way to close associates of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
