Cambodia speaks of violation of sovereignty, Thailand rejects accusations

Tensions between Cambodia and Thailand are rising again. Prime Minister Hun Manet claims that Thai troops remain deep inside Cambodian territory, even after the December 27 ceasefire that followed the failed October agreement brokered by Donald Trump.

He says this is a violation of sovereignty and that the only solution is to immediately resume the work of the joint border commission.

Bangkok rejects the accusations and claims that the deployment of troops is part of a de-escalation. The fighting that broke out in July was the worst in more than a decade and crippled trade and life on the border. Hun Manet pointed to warming relations with the US, but stressed that cooperation with China is not affected.

He also said that the government in Phnom Penh is preparing a law against cyber fraud, for which it faces international criticism.
