Canada summons OpenAI after tragic shooting

Canada summoned OpenAI's security team to Ottawa after it emerged that the company had failed to report internal concerns about a young man who later committed a school shooting. The 18-year-old attacker, who had mental health issues, shot eight people in the western part of the country earlier this month and then committed suicide.

OpenAI reported that it had blocked his ChatGPT account last year for violating its rules, but said the case did not meet its internal criteria for reporting to law enforcement.

Minister for Artificial Intelligence Evan Solomon wants an explanation from company representatives about security protocols and risk assessment methods.

He emphasized that the government takes the protection of citizens from online threats seriously and that "all options are on the table." He has not yet specified any concrete measures, but the case is likely to open a broader discussion about the responsibility of technology companies.
