Trump's claim about Iranian missiles questioned by intelligence officials

Trump's claim about Iranian missiles questioned by intelligence officials

In his speech, US President Donald Trump stated that Iran will soon acquire missiles capable of striking US territory. However, according to three sources familiar with US intelligence assessments, this claim is not supported by available information and appears to be exaggerated.

An unpublished 2025 Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) analysis estimates that Tehran could need until 2035 to develop a usable intercontinental ballistic missile.

The White House defends Trump's words, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaks more about the long-term perspective. Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons and claims that its missile programme is purely defensive in nature.

Experts also point out that developing a functional intercontinental missile with a re-entry module is a technologically challenging process. The issue comes at a time of tense negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme and continuing military pressure in the region.
