Hegseth: Scouts only based on biological sex

Scouting America has agreed with the Pentagon on terms that will preserve its longstanding partnership with the US military.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that membership in Scouting will be based solely on biological sex at birth and that the organization will remove elements associated with diversity, equality, and inclusion policies.

According to him, the agreement responds to President Donald Trump's executive order, which aims to restrict similar programs in federal institutions.

However, Scouting America emphasized that its mission to serve all young people remains unchanged and that transgender members are still welcome. Organization President Roger Krone said that the separation of boys and girls in intimate spaces already complies with existing rules.

Part of the agreement is the cancellation of the "Citizenship in Society" badge and its replacement with a new "Military Service" badge. The armed forces will continue to support the organization, including the use of military bases for events.
