Iran attacks US bases in Qatar and Bahrain
Iran has launched a series of missile attacks on US military targets in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. This is in response to previous strikes by the United States and Israel.
Explosions were reported in Doha, Abu Dhabi, and Manama, but the extent of the damage is not yet clear.
In Qatar, the target was Al Udeid, the largest US base in the Middle East, which is the forward headquarters of US Central Command and, according to available data, houses around 10,000 soldiers. Some of the missiles were intercepted by air defenses.
Bahrain is home to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, responsible for operations in the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, and the Arabian Sea.
According to Iranian sources, the attacks also affected the Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait and other facilities, including Al Dhafra in the UAE.
There are other key points of US presence in the region, such as Ain Al Asad and Erbil in Iraq, Prince Sultan in Saudi Arabia, and Muwaffaq al Salti in Jordan.
