Souda naval base in Crete on alert after Iran attacks

Security has been tightened at the strategic naval base in Souda, Crete, used by Greece, the US and NATO, following the attacks on Iran. According to informed sources, a state of alert is in place and access to the facility is restricted to security forces and essential personnel. Air defence systems have also been activated.

The move comes amid rising tensions in the eastern Mediterranean. Souda plays a key role in NATO and US operations in the region, making its protection a priority at a time of possible escalation.

The US aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford recently called at the base to replenish supplies before moving on. Although the Greek authorities have not officially commented, the measures suggest that concerns about the conflict spreading across the wider region are being taken seriously.
