Trump calls NATO allies ‘cowards’
President Donald Trump on Friday lashed out at NATO allies over what he described as their lack of support for the US–Israeli war against Iran, calling longstanding partners ‘cowards’. ‘Without the U.S., NATO is a paper tiger!’ he wrote in a post on social media.
The White House chief has repeatedly urged major allies – who were not informed in advance of the start of the war – to help secure shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US president has complained that NATO countries are unwilling to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, despite his calls for support.
‘Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk,’ he wrote. ‘COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER!’
