Grandmother leads abortion petition in California

California activist Mary Waldorf has launched a petition against Enloe Hospital in Chico, which reportedly performs second-trimester abortions. As head of the local ‘40 Days for Life’ initiative, she said she was prompted to act by information from medical staff that some employees are being forced to participate in the procedures.

Waldorf, who has no prior experience in campaigning, aims to gather 10,000 signatures – roughly a tenth of the town’s population. So far, she has collected about 800.

She said local media were not paying attention to the issue, which she described as a ‘media blackout’. The activist also stressed the need for a broader debate on the protection of life and the options available to women in difficult situations. The hospital has not yet publicly commented on the allegations.
