Car hits pedestrians in Derby, man arrested

Seven people were injured after a car drove into pedestrians in the British city of Derby on Saturday evening. All were taken to hospital. Police arrested the driver.

Officers stopped a vehicle believed to have been involved at about 9.30 p.m. local time (8.30 p.m. CET). The driver, a man in his 30s, was detained at the scene.

The man, originally from India, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving and with intent, and other related offences.

‘While we know this may cause concern, we would like to assure people that we do not believe the public is at risk at this time,’ local police said in a Facebook post.

Police have cordoned off the area and urged the public to avoid it.
