Zelenskyy offers Russia a limited energy truce
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine is ready to consider a limited ‘energy truce’ with Russia, under which both sides would refrain from striking each other’s energy infrastructure.
According to RBC Ukraine, the president suggested Kyiv would halt attacks on Russia’s oil and energy sector if Moscow stopped targeting Ukrainian energy facilities.
The proposal comes amid reports of a worsening global energy outlook, with the war in the Middle East contributing to rising oil prices.
Zelenskyy also noted that some of Ukraine’s partners have signalled a preference for greater restraint in retaliatory strikes on Russian energy assets.
He reiterated that Kyiv is open to negotiating ‘virtually any format’ of ceasefire, whether a full truce, an arrangement focused on energy infrastructure, or broader protections covering infrastructure, maritime routes and airspace.
The president added that trilateral talks involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia could take place in the coming weeks.
Separately, issues including prisoner exchanges and the return of abducted Ukrainian children remain unresolved.
