Romania Scrambles F-16s After Russian Drone Breach
A Russian drone briefly violated Romanian airspace during overnight attacks on Ukraine near the shared border. The incident occurred in the Chilia area, with Romania’s defense ministry confirming that the drone then continued towards the Ukrainian town of Izmail, Romanian news channel Digi24 reported.
In response, F-16 fighter jets were dispatched from Fetesti air base shortly after 2 a.m., and an RO-Alert warning was issued to residents in northern Tulcea county.
According to available data, Russian forces deployed about 20 drones targeting Ukrainian positions near the Danube. Several explosions were reported on the Ukrainian side of the river.
Romanian authorities said they were keeping allies informed and remained in contact throughout the incident. The air raid alert was lifted at approximately 2:50 a.m.
