Russian Advance in Ukraine Slows Despite More Attacks

Russia’s advance in Ukraine is slowing, analysts say, even as the number of attacks has risen slightly. DeepState monitoring reported that Russian forces seized nearly 12% less territory in April than in March, while the number of offensive operations increased by more than 2%, the Unian news agency reported.

According to the available data, the offensive is becoming less effective, with Russian forces needing an average of up to 36 attacks to gain 1 sq km of territory.

The occupied part of Dnipropetrovsk region has also shrunk, with Ukrainian forces regaining dozens of square kilometers there in recent months.

Analysts said the Russian military is finding it increasingly difficult to concentrate sufficient forces on smaller sections of the front. The problem has been accompanied by a shift in tactics. Instead of mass infantry waves, Russian forces are increasingly deploying small assault groups that try to penetrate Ukrainian lines unnoticed, indicating an adaptation to battlefield conditions.
