Ukraine Dismisses Russian 9 May Ceasefire Signals
Ukraine has refused to treat Russian statements about a possible ceasefire on 9 May as a serious proposal. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Kyiv had received no official offer and viewed the signals so far as a diplomatic maneuver by Moscow. He said Russia was seeking to improve its international image, particularly in relation to the United States, The New Voice of Ukraine reported.
Sybiha also pointed out that Russia has not observed similar short-term ceasefires in the past, reducing their credibility. Ukraine therefore insists that any ceasefire must be formally confirmed and include clear implementation mechanisms.
According to available information, Vladimir Putin was expected to discuss the possibility of a ceasefire in a conversation with Donald Trump, but the details remain unclear.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that Kyiv was ready to negotiate, but preferred a long-term solution that would bring stability and lasting peace.
