US Keeps Tomahawk Deployment in Germany Open

The United States has not abandoned its plan to deploy long-range Tomahawk missiles in Germany, the German defense ministry has said.

The statement follows Washington's announcement of a reduction in troop numbers in the country, which had prompted fears that the project would be scrapped. Berlin stressed that no final decision has been taken and that deployment remains a possibility.

European countries are meanwhile working on their own solutions to strengthen the continent's defense capabilities. The missiles are considered an important element of deterrence against Russia as Europe gradually builds up its military capacity.
