UK Seeks to Join EU's $90bn Loan Program for Ukraine

The UK is negotiating to join the European Union's $90bn loan program for Ukraine, which is intended primarily to fund the country's defense spending. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government is pursuing the arrangement with the European Commission, headed by Ursula von der Leyen.

According to the Commission, London could participate if it meets a number of conditions, including contributing to the interest on the loan. The program is expected to cover around two-thirds of Ukraine's needs over the next two years, with some funds potentially going toward British arms contracts.

Britain already has a security partnership with the EU and is considered likely to meet the condition of supporting Ukraine.
