Trump Ballroom Funding in Jeopardy

A US Senate official on Saturday excluded security funding from a major spending package that had been intended to cover President Donald Trump's planned $400m White House ballroom, Democratic lawmakers said. The decision threatens Republican efforts to earmark taxpayer money for the project.

Trump has said the ballroom's construction will be funded by private donors. Senate Republicans, however, are demanding $1bn in taxpayer money for the Secret Service for security improvements, including those related to the ballroom.
