Beijing Condemns Taiwanese Minister’s Visit to Switzerland

China’s foreign ministry has criticized a visit by Taiwan’s foreign minister to Switzerland, where he attended side events linked to a World Health Organisation (WHO) meeting.

Ministry spokesman Kuo Jia-kun said on Monday that Beijing opposes any efforts by other countries to provide a platform for activities promoting “Taiwan independence”. He accused Taiwanese authorities of using international forums to attract attention, describing such behavior as futile and likely to end in failure.

Beijing also confirmed last week that it would once again block Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly, the WHO’s annual meeting, which is taking place this week.

China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has consistently opposed its independent presence on the international stage.
