Ukraine Builds Domestic Guided Bomb
Ukraine has completed development of its first indigenous glide bomb, which has passed testing and is ready for combat deployment, according to the Brave1 defense technology program.
Glide bombs use guidance and aerodynamic systems to improve strike accuracy and can be launched from tens of kilometers away, allowing aircraft to stay outside the range of enemy air defenses, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said.
The weapon was developed as a domestic alternative to Western GBU systems and Russian KAB bombs fitted with UMPK guidance kits. Brave1 said the system was designed by Ukrainian engineers over 17 months and is not a copy of foreign technology.
The bomb carries a 250kg warhead and is intended for strikes against fortifications, command posts and other targets behind the front line. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has already received the first experimental batch, while pilots are rehearsing combat scenarios.
Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said Ukraine aims to reduce dependence on imported systems by expanding domestic production of advanced weapons.
