Iraqi Drone Attack Hits UAE Nuclear Plant
The United Arab Emirates said it faced six drone strikes from Iraq over the past 48 hours, including one that hit an electrical generator at the Barakah nuclear power plant, the Arab world’s first commercial nuclear facility.
The UAE Ministry of Defense said air defenses intercepted all but one of the drones. Emirati authorities stated that three drones were aimed directly at the Barakah plant. Officials stressed that there was no radioactive leak and that the facility remains safe.
Abu Dhabi described the attacks as terrorist acts and said it reserves the right to respond. Several pro-Iranian militias operate in Iraq and have previously claimed attacks against targets across the region.
Despite the ceasefire following the Iran conflict, drone attacks against Gulf states continue, including incidents involving Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
