Vance Warns Against Iranian Nuclear Arms Race
According to Vance, Iran is interested in reaching an agreement, while the main US objective remains preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
He warned that a nuclear-armed Iran could trigger a dangerous arms race across the Gulf region and beyond. Washington is therefore seeking a mechanism that would permanently prevent Iran from restarting a military-grade nuclear program, he said.
At the same time, President Donald Trump is facing pressure to secure an agreement that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil supplies.
Trump has repeatedly suggested that the United States could resume military strikes against Iran if negotiations collapse. Vance, meanwhile, denied reports that Washington is currently considering transferring Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia.
