Trump Says US Will Send 5,000 More Troops to Poland
US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland, citing his relationship with the country’s newly elected president, Karol Nawrocki.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision was based on Nawrocki’s “successful election”, his own endorsement of the conservative nationalist and the relationship between the two men.
The announcement came two days after Vice President JD Vance said a US troop deployment to Poland had been delayed. The United States has been reassessing its military presence in Europe, with Trump long pressing European NATO allies to take greater responsibility for the continent’s defense and increase their own military spending.
Nawrocki defeated a candidate backed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the presidential election. Trump met him at the White House during the campaign and has repeatedly described Poland as one of the United States’ closest allies in Central Europe.
