Christian Lifeguard Sues over LGBT Flag Suspension

Los Angeles County Fire Department Lifeguard Division Captain Jeffrey Little is suing local authorities after being suspended for removing rainbow flags from beach stands. He claims he acted in accordance with his Christian beliefs and under a religious exemption that had initially been approved, Fox News reports.

The case stems from a 2023 decision by Los Angeles County to display flags supporting the LGBT community on public buildings and facilities during June.

Little, who has served in the lifeguard division for more than 20 years, asked management for an exemption so that he would not have to personally display the flags or instruct subordinates to do so. His attorney, Paul Jonna, said authorities initially granted the request but reversed the decision two days later.

Little subsequently removed several flags, prompting management to open an investigation. He received a 15-day suspension without pay. Los Angeles County denies the suspension was a sanction for his religious views, saying Little violated internal rules by removing the flags without authorization.
