Iran to Clear Hormuz Mines 30 Days After Deal
The United States and Iran are negotiating a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz about 30 days after the conclusion of a deal to end the conflict, according to a diplomatic source in the Middle East cited by the Japanese daily Nikkei.
Under the proposal, Iran would begin clearing minefields in the strategically important strait within a month of a deal being signed. Ships from all countries would then be permitted to pass freely through the strait, which carries a significant share of the world's oil supply, and Tehran would cease collecting transit fees.
The emerging framework would also extend the ceasefire, which entered into force in early April, by a further 60 days, during which negotiations on Iran's nuclear program would continue.
