US Plans to Cut Offensive Military Capabilities in Europe

The United States plans to significantly reduce its offensive military capabilities in Europe, raising concern among European NATO members, TVP World reported.

Washington wants to cut about half of its long-range assets in Europe, including fighter jets, bombers, aircraft carriers, drones and submarines. The US nuclear deterrent on the continent is expected to remain in place.

At the same time, the Trump administration is pressing European countries to rapidly strengthen their own defense capabilities and prepare a plan to replace US forces before the NATO summit in Ankara in July.

European states are not yet able to fully replace US capabilities, particularly in strategic reconnaissance.

Experts say the issue is not only about military numbers, but also about political signaling. A reduced US presence could weaken NATO’s credibility and force Europe to build a security strategy less dependent on Washington.
