Meloni Urges EU Border Vigilance Over Ebola Risk

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday that she had written to senior European Union leaders urging stronger coordination on border vigilance in response to the risk of Ebola spreading on the continent.

“Italy believes that the epidemiological situation in Central Africa linked to the recent outbreak of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda warrants the utmost attention”, she wrote in a statement.

Meloni said she had proposed adding border management to the agenda of the next EU summit in June. Italy is also calling for a video conference of EU health ministers next week.
