Apple to Submit Financial Data as India Antitrust Case Advances

Apple has agreed to provide financial data on its Indian business to the country’s antitrust authority, moving a long-running investigation closer to a possible decision on sanctions.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) concluded in 2024 that the company had abused its dominant position in the iPhone apps market. Apple denies wrongdoing and plans to challenge the findings.

According to a document seen by Reuters, Apple asked for a final extension at a hearing in May to submit financial data relating to its Indian operations. The authority granted the request and set a deadline of 25 June.

The case began in 2021 with a complaint by the nonprofit Together We Fight Society. Match Group and the Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF), which represents Indian startups, later joined the proceedings. The complainants objected in particular to Apple’s mandatory in-app payment system.

Apple argues that it has only a small presence in India, where devices running Google’s Android system dominate the market.
