Rocket Strikes Continue Despite Israel-Lebanon Deal
The Israeli army said on Wednesday it had intercepted two rockets fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon, as Israeli strikes hit several vehicles including a car near Beirut, in what Lebanese security sources described as a violation of the US-brokered ceasefire deal.
Despite Monday's announcement of a reduction in attacks, hostilities continue. Lebanon has become one of the flashpoints of a wider regional crisis as Iran insists that any deal with the US must include a halt to Israeli attacks in the country.
Israeli drones have struck at least 10 vehicles, according to Lebanese sources. An attack near Khalda, south of Beirut, wounded two people, while a strike near Tyre killed six, according to the health ministry. Two medics were killed in an attack on an ambulance, and the Lebanese army announced the death of one soldier.
Israel has warned residents of six towns and villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate as it plans further operations against Hezbollah. Hezbollah said it had carried out 13 operations against Israeli forces on Tuesday.
Representatives of Lebanon and Israel are due to meet in Washington for further US-brokered talks.
