Congo Faces One of Largest Ebola Epidemics, CDC Warns

Model scenarios by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that without strong public health interventions, the current Bundibugyo strain Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo could rival or exceed the 2014–2016 outbreak in West Africa, the agency said on Friday.

The CDC has published three reports to alert the international community to the urgency of the situation. Early patient isolation and rapid resource mobilization will be critical to containing the spread.

Without higher isolation rates, the outbreak could rank among the largest Ebola epidemics on record.
