Rosatom Reports Drone Attack on Zaporizhzhia Workers

Tensions over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant have escalated after Rosatom accused Ukraine of a drone attack on a group of engineers carrying out demining work around the facility. The Russian state nuclear company said several workers were injured, two of them seriously.

The attack is said to have occurred during a ceasefire coordinated by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and intended to allow for the restoration of damaged power lines. IAEA director general Rafael Grossi subsequently appealed for respect for the ceasefire and for military restraint.

Kyiv has not commented on the Russian claims. The plant, the largest in Europe, has been a source of dispute since the start of the Russian occupation. The situation is further complicated by damage to other power links, leaving the site dependent on emergency diesel generators for the safe operation and cooling of nuclear fuel.
