Churches in Pforzheim to Support CSD March

The Catholic parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Evangelical Church in Pforzheim, Germany, will support the Christopher Street Day (CSD) march on Saturday. The two churches will share a booth in the town square, where clergy and pastoral staff will speak with visitors and offer blessings on request, local outlet PZ News reported.

Leaders of both churches said in a statement that they support the dignity of every human being and believe that all people are created and loved by God, regardless of religion, origin, social status or sexual identity.

They also expressed concern over a reported rise in attacks and threats against queer people, including in Pforzheim. The churches criticized a planned counter-demonstration by right-wing extremists near the march and called on local authorities and police to ensure the safety of CSD participants.

The Evangelical Church will also join the parade with a small decorated vehicle, according to the report.
